Definition - What does Brahma Shakti mean?

In some yoga traditions, Brahma shakti is the force of creating. It is one of three forces, the other two being Vishnu shakti (the force of maintaining) and Shiva shakti (the force of transformation). Each yogi has a dominant force but aspires to fully develop all three to reach guru shakti, the supreme state.

The Hindu god, Brahma, personifies Brahma shakti, or cosmic energy. He is the originating power and creator of all life. Shakti is associated with the feminine and is also represented by the goddess, Saraswati, who is considered the consort of Brahma in some Hindu traditions.

Yogapedia explains Brahma Shakti

Brahma shakti is a creative energy that is associated with all forms of creation, from the formation of the universe, to implementation of ideas, to building friendships. Methods for activating this shakti include yoga asanas, pranayama, mudras and meditation with particular focus on the chakras.

Brahma shakti resides in the muladhara (root) chakra. Muladhara forms the base of the chakra system from which the major nadis (energy channels) begin. From here, Brahma shakti can travel the nadis up through the chakras to reunite with Brahman.

When Brahma shakti is activated, the yogi feels energized, joyful and calmness of mind. The yogi who is filled with Brahma shakti does not feel fatigued, regardless of any physical effort.
