Gurumayi Chidvilasananda is the existing spiritual head of the Siddha yoga path. From Sanskrit, her name means “the bliss of the play of consciousness.” At the age of 14, she became a disciple and yoga student of Swami Muktananda, the Siddha spiritual leader at the time.

Chidvilasananda is a spiritual master who is considered to have uninterrupted identification with the Supreme Self and assists current followers of the Siddha yoga path to awaken their spiritual energy.

Gurumayi Chidvilasananda was the eldest child of parents who were devotees of Swami Muktananda. She would visit Muktananda’s ashram regularly before becoming a disciple. Then, in 1982, she was initiated as the joint spiritual head of the Siddha path alongside her younger brother, Swami Nityananda, who later left the Siddha path.

Gurumayi Chidvilasananda has written nine books, recorded several CDs of chanting and regularly teaches on the official Siddha yoga path website. In 1997, she founded a nonprofit organization, the Muktabodha Indological Research Institute, that works to preserve and publish classical Indian philosophical and religious texts.
